The Big Picture

Greater Kruger
Southern Africa's Beautiful Deserts

Big Picture books are no ordinary wildlife books. They depict the different facets of the subjects in a new and dramatic way, with bold, in-your-face images that leap off the page. By focusing not only on typical wildlife and nature images, but also on behind-the-scenes activities, people in the environment as well as research etc., the books reveal a world not usually seen by tourists. The photography has a fresh and contemporary artistic style.

Greater Kruger was the first Big Picture book to be launched. The second in the series is on the Deserts of Southern Africa, and the third will be on the extraordinary biodiversity of KwaZulu-Natal.

GREATER KRUGER

Greater Kruger – The Big Picture, the first book in the Big Picture series, was a resounding success. 5 000 copies were sold out in 5 months. 1 400 were sold before publication, and more than 400 as corporate gifts. Companies ordered their own customized dust covers with information on the company etc. printed on the cover. Greater Kruger was also chosen as one of the 50 best books in South Africa, by being included in the 2004 Exclusive Books Publishers' Choice. The second print run of Greater Kruger – The Big Picture will be available in April 2005.

Greater Kruger - The Big Picture presents an extraordinary collection of wildlife and unusual images by internationally acclaimed photographers Heinrich van den Berg, and husband-and-wife team Philip and Ingrid van den Berg. The photographs, taken in and around the Kruger National Park over the past 10 years, reveal the unique and captivating style of the Van den Berg photographers.

DESERT OF SOUTHERN AFRICA

Southern Africa's Beautiful Deserts – The Big Picture, the second book in the Big Picture series, will follow the Big Picture theme. It deals with the four desert biomes in southern Africa, namely the sand and rock desert or Namib, the Nama Karoo, the Succulent Karoo and also the Arid Savanna or Kalahari.

DESIGN

The Big Picture books' design follows the ‘big picture’ theme, with large format set against a strikingly minimalist design style. Through the enticing pages of the books, the reader is invited to become a part of the evocative worlds covered by the books.
